Well this is my first entry. I started this project back in the summer of 2002 with a rear wheel to an FXR. Money was tight and I wanted to build a bike. I never thought this would take me as long as it has. The nice thing is GF has made sure I stick to a budget on this. I have tried to use decent used parts where possible. It hasn't always been easy. While in Iraq in 2005 I kept buying parts and have them shipped to buddy of mine at work. Everyone thought I would have it together shortly there after. Well it is November of 2009, and I am still at it. School, work, a couple of moves, a different job and some other stuff have slowed down progress.
Lessons I have learned, buy the damn component whole if possible, I have tried buying a camshaft here, cases there, heads, valves you name it one lousy piece at a time. I wish I had just saved up and bought the motor, in the end it might be cheaper. Same for the 5 speed.
Next lesson: decide what you want to build make a drawing or picture to use as you reference point.
Buy decent parts, I have gotten a few things through ebay, that the price was great, but when I opened the box, it was well not what I thought it would be.
Be smart enough to know some things you can't build because of:

(Project bike build)
Well it has been a while and a lot of progress has been going on. I have the frame back from the powder coater. Nothing really exotic, basic black gets the job done. The motor and tranny are in, as is the swingarm, rear tire, inner primary and I have started tackling the primary drive. I posted some recent pics and you can see where I am now. As for the rear fender, it just doesn't seem to sit right, and I suspect some grinding and drilling may be in store in the near future. More stuff...
