Looking to buy a used Venom

I joined CC back in early 2004 while researching the Venom Prostreet. After a few months I decided to buy a H-D Deuce because of cost and insurance. I customized it, added chrome, rode the hell out of it for 4 years but unfortunatley I got into an accident 2 weeks ago and totalled the bike. Now I'm thinking about buying the bike I originally wanted. I could probably get a good deal on a bike with a few miles on it. I found some '04 and '05s on Cycle Trader and Ebay for under $20k. If I'm not mistaken, the prostreet is not affected by the frame recall. I'd like to ask you guys for any comments both good and bad about purchasing an '04 or '05 Venom Prostreet. I really appreciate any info that could affect my decision.

Just to let you know about the wreck....me and a couple buddies were riding in a poker run on a beatiful Saturday morning. We were cruising down the highway at 70MPH and the idiots at the front of the group didn't signal to the rest of us that there was some debris in the road (a tire and some wood). They just swerved around it and the guys in front of me had to brake hard to avoid hitting it. All I saw was my buddy's 300mm rear tire stopping in front of me so I hit the brakes. I skidded for a while, went into the death wobble, laid the bike over, flipped over the bike and roled down the highway. I got 11 stitches in my head, a broken collar bone and lots of road rash. I'll never ride in a big group again. Those inexperienced riders shouldn't have been leading the group. From now on I'll only ride with my riding buddies. I'll never ride without a helmet again. I do need to get back on the road soon. My shoulder is gonna take 2 to 3 months to heal and hopefully by then I'll have another bike.

Why would anyone want to buy a used lemon? Can't you just go to the supermarket and get a new one? TK.

Edit: Venom! dammit, Venom! Not lemon! Sorry about that!

i wouldn't buy anything produced by a company that's turned out inferior products like frames and then to add insult to injury they're half assing the fix on their shitty frame? sorry, i'd ride a stock harley first. just because the pro street frame hasn't been recalled doesn't mean it's right. their designs have inherent design flaws in every frame.

'04s and '05s for under 20K on ebay? How far under? You might want to wait until those guys realize they aint selling and drop the price again. The used bike market is damn near dead. For the first time in a lot of years I'm seeing a ton of HD's being offered at under 9K.

Go for it!

Lobo,
You might get a few guys around here saying that BBC bikes are not good, but as for me and my experiences, I have had really good luck. When people say they are bad frames, yes the ones that were recalled were bad and need to be fixed. What BBC is doing isn’t working for some. I think I would be mad if I had a Venom Chopper and couldn’t get it fixed.
My Bike looks great, rides great, sounds great, and I get a lot of complements when I ride. I wouldn’t be afraid of buying another one. And yes you can get them for well under 20K, I would say you should be able to get a good bike with low miles for somewhere between 15-18K. Good luck on your purchase.

So far, the guys that have had the fixes done that also post here, have stated that the welds on their recalled frames where just fine. I'm not saying that all the recall frames are good, just saying none have been shown bad.

Its still just one frame so far...

anybody
i spoke to mike at big bear choppers about the recall repairs on my 04 venom
he said bring it down but it would cost extra for there painter to bondo the
welds smooth, and THAT'S NOT RIGHT. i have purchased 3 venom kits to
build and sell, this one i was going to keep for awhile and take to shows to
park next to my 68 SS elcamino, it has less than 100 miles. i guess i kept
it alittle to long. if big bear would fix this and make it look like it does right
now with smoothed welds and nice color blend without cost too me i would
be fine with driving 8 hours to big bear to have it repaired, and that is 8 hours
each way 2 times once to drop off and once to pick up.
sounds like big pain in ass!!!! anybody want to buy it???? hell i dont know
what to do.
