This posting is from Big Bear American Made Choppers, Inc., and pertains to all 2004 Sled/Venom/Devils Advocate Chopper and Pro Street Owners, and to all 2005 Sled/Venom/Devils Advocate Chopper Owners:

We have seen a number of postings from an owner regarding our frames; he has refused to provide us access to the frame, though the failure he claims to have experienced occurred over six months ago.

Though there are circumstances the owner is not disclosing that we believe contributed directly to his frame failure, we are concerned for the safety of our Customers, and are conducting an evaluation of our frames for the models and model years noted above. We anticipate having this evaluation concluded within the next two weeks. It is our belief that owners of the following models for years 2004 and 2005 must not ride their Big Bear Chopper until further notice from Big Bear Choppers:

2004:

Venom - Chopper and Pro Street
Devils Advocate - Chopper and Pro Street
Sled - Chopper and Pro Street

2005:

Venom - Chopper
Devils Advocate - Chopper
Sled - Chopper

We mailed a notification to the owners of the models and model years noted above today, and want to ensure the safety of our Customers while we evaluate this matter. I want to reiterate that, pending conclusion of our evaluation, owners of the models noted above, for the years identified, must not ride their Big Bear Motorcycle until further notice.

I will provide another posting to supplement our direct-mailing to our Customers regarding our progress on, and the status of, this matter in the coming week.

Questions regarding this posting should be directed to our Warranty Department at (909) 878-4340.

I thank you in advance for your attention to this important safety matter.

Is this a joke? So even though they believe Larry is to blame, they are recalling all 2004, 2005 models?????

-------WOW-----------

This is not an open request for bike to examine to compare to Larry's. This is a complete warning to NOT ride the bike. BBC wants to read between the lines in Larry's correspondence and extrapolate their own meanings. BBC's statement is clear----

These guys appear to have a BIG problem coming.

Secondly.....this is really STUPID of them to refer to an open liability claim in the opening statements of a saftey warning. I cannot believe these dum-asses claimed Larry liabeled THEM.

While I think Larry's post was all about looking for others with similar issues it appears to have now gotten the correct response from the company.

BBC is now showing a bit of concern for all it's customers rather than just blaiming Larry. This is the proper thing for them to do and does show some class on the companies part.

I hope it turns out that one of their welders had one bad day and, while unfortunate for Larry, that he was the only recipient of this type of work.

BBC has already sent out gussets for their frames with instructions. Happened over a week ago.

Are they saying that you have to weld the gusset in to a finished bike? What about all the custom paint, etc.? This is going to be a big problem for all the owners of BBC bikes.

Dear Dave,

As clearly stated in my response to your attorneys letter I HAVE granted Big Bear American Made Choppers, Inc. access to the frame at any time you wish as seen in my posting of that letter here, Post #56 paragraph #3 "If they wish to inspect it they are welcome to come to the Bess MTI, Inc. facility in Santa Clara, CA and do their inspection there." As to the allegation that I have not disclosed something that may have contributed to the failure I believe that to be untrue as you can see from my postings here and the letters sent to your attorney in New York.
I am however relieved that Big Bear American Made Choppers, Inc., is finally, in light of the preponderance of evidence, beginning to take responsibility for this incident and getting the word out so that someone else's life and limb is not put in jeopardy.

Seems like a lame response/band-aid to a very serious problem. Wonder how a gussest is going to hold your axle plates on?
