Shovel/Pan chopper basket case primary/clutch

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recently traded an abandoned prostreet fat tire buell abortion-project (frame and pile of parts) for a shovel/pan basket. It's a mid-usa frame with 4+ (?) paucho springer, late delkron shovel cases, s&s pan jugs, std pan heads, 93", Performance Machine brakes, hand controls and master cylinders, yada yada yada.... really all it was missing was a tranny and primary/clutch. The engine already had a 3" pulley and he gave me a 3" primo belt with it, and it has what i figure to be a 4 speed trans plate. I picked up a later model softail trans (post 84 with splined shaft) that doesnt seem to have ever been used for cheap.

This is my first BT build, done a bunch of japs and sporty/ironheads. I'm tryin to figure out what specific trans pulley/clutch basket i need, seems like all i can find are either for 4 speeds or pre 85 trannies or dont say either way. any help is greatly appreciated. And i got a kicker kit with the tranny, I'd like to just run that and no electric start.

This is how far I've gotten her, ditching the dumbass risers tho....

clutch hub will be 93+ or 92- depending on the year of the tranny

Checked tonight and the tranny plate is removable, and the motor has a 1/2 inch spacer installed. If my math is right...if I move the entire thing outboard 3/8 of an inch, then move the tranny sprocket back inboard 1/4 inch and add an 1/8 inch spacer behind the wheel sprocket that will give me 1/4 inch on each side of the chain. Now I just need to figure out what parts I need. Tranny plate, new engine spacer and tranny sprocket for sure. Will I need a new front pulley, or is the room on the crank shaft to use a spacer?

Got busy tonight and didn't get a chance to pull the primary so I could measure the tranny sprocket, hopefully this weekend I'll get a chance.

*edit* wrong thread, mod can delete since I couldn't figure out how...

Thanks for the info RedWings! now as far as the 3" primary pulley for the trans, are they specific to year and tranny type or is that just for the clutch basket? Sorry for my ignorance, all this aftermarket prmary shtuff is new to me.

As far as the engine goes, i dont really care what it looks like, just plan on riding the shit out of it till it blows up, then i'll worry bout that

the early evo tranny had a splined shaft, horrible, stay away from that one. somewhere around 88 or 89 they went to a splined shaft then in 93 they upgraded again. so you have to be within those years when ordering clutch parts. the jackshaft also changed in 93. basically if you have a 93+ tranny order 93+ parts.

Im unsure of the year of the tranny, its a splined shaft but no idea how to determine the year. Also, it came with an aftermarket kicker kit and I'd like to just run that and no electric start, seems like it'd be easier and cheaper. We'll see how long that lasts after I start kicking this beast over The kicker kit is missing a couple internal parts too.....

Would sort that out dont want to hurt the knee before the first ride,, lol... is the box a five speed if so then i think it wil be 94 onwards as it has the splined shaft. Be aware of out of round clutch hubs and baskets, i paid $480.00 for a complete clutch pressed the bearing on and in then found out it was out of round and the asshole would not replace it. but he will get his as soon as i land in his town!!!!!!!!!! good luck mate..
