Inner primary chain clearance
So I got my bike this bike as a roller with motor and trans installed. I finished up the wiring last night ans started looking over the rest of the bike for issues and I am going to need to re-space the rear wheel and pull the primo 3 inch primary so I can change the tranny sprocket. I don't know how much clearance there should be between the back of the primary and the chain, but I'm guessing it's more than this:
This combined with a clearance between the chain and the edge of the tire of about 1/8 inch makes me think I'm gonna need to move the tire a pretty good bit...which now means it's no longer going to be centered in the fender. It's got a 200 on the rear.
I was told the frame was a Santee, but I'm thinking more and more it's an older Ultima. The MSO paperwork is in the mail from the lower 48. So I'll have to look when it gets here to see if the frame is even for a 200 or if the PO just decided on his own to add one (the bike was never finished and has never been riden).
Soooo, anyone know what clearance I should have for the chain at the back of the primary?
Would it be easier just to have a shallow channel machined into the primary?

Do not take the rear tire out of center, 1/8" clearance on the tire is tight but OK, you need to offset your primary to get everything in correct alignment, then, if you want, you should be able to add some more clearance between the chain and the tire.

you got a hella lot of space between the tire and chain. if you're running a dished sprocket change to a flat sprocket and change the tranny sprocket. leave the tire as is.

Thanks, was looking at the primo site and it looks like I'll need a new sprocket, cank pulley, and spacers for the engine and tranny. Sound about right?

It's a flat wheel sprocket, and with only an 1/8 inch to play with between the tire I don't have much room to move the tranny sprocket inboard, so I think I'm gonna try as Captain said and space the primary. I was hoping there were provisions of the frame to move everything to the left, but no such luck.

Spacing the primary will not work unless you move the tranny over too. Its a pretty big undertaking unless you have a removable tranny plate. If you do you can buy offset plates to move the tranny. The chain can get pretty close laterally to the primary and tyre. I would crowd the tyre if you have to crowd either one. Moving the wheel an 1/8" will not hurt anything. You will need to see what offset sprocket you have. Also check the length of the spacer behind the sprocket, They come in two lengths if you have the longer one you can just change it to get the space you need.

Good info. If I can find time tonight I'll pull the primary and check the sprocket and spacer. I'll also check the tranny plate. I don't know if it's removable or not.

BTW...there's 1/4" difference in the spacers PR mentioned....
