Question Ultima Ignition 53-660 Install

Hi all,

Just purchased a new Ultima Programmable Ignition Kit 53-660.

My El Bruto 100" has the 53-645 module installed and was pre set/pre timed. Motor was running fine until I had a few let's say ball breaker of issues, hence fried my module.

Now when I swap it out, do I have to perform any particular timing adjustments? Or just swap it out as the engine is pre times/tuned?

Sorry for the stupid question but I don't want to fuck up anything.

I might be jumping the gun some what as I haven't even received the unit yet.

But any pre install advise would be appreciated as I am mechanically savvy, but I have never timed an engine before.

Thanks,
Jeb

Hey all, received my new Ignition Module kit today.

I already removed the stock Ultima Igntion module, but left the Gold coloured timing rotor in tact and untouched.

I will be attempting to static time the ignition this weekend.

I am assuming I can just use the timing rotor which is already installed, correct?

Also I have programmed the ignition as follows:

SW1 - OFF - VOES Normal
SW2 - ON, SW3 - OFF - Curve 2 for 100ci
SW4 - OFF, SW5 - OFF - 5500RPM limiter
SW6 - ON - Single Fire

I am going to install the module right in place of the old one (using existing installed timing rotor).

Make sure the crankshaft to TDC on compression stroke for the front cylinder.

Turn the module clockwise carefully until the Red LED just turns off.

Is that all? Seems simple enough..

Thanks,
Jeb

I would have thought that no static timing would result in possible misfiring and also pinging.

Ok followed the instructions, installed the ignition module (remember I used the already installed gold timing rotor).

Wired it all up, I'm now becoming the wiring king

Removed timing inspection plug and found TDC on compression stroke (well what I thought to have been compression and not exhaust) as there was air pushing through the comp release on the front jug.

Turned the ignition module clockwise but couldn't get the red led to turn on, so for some reason its not at a firing point.

When key ignition is on, the red led blinks for about a quarter of a second then goes off. This is normal if the module is not sensing a firing point.

Should I remove the old gold timing rotor? Could the rotor be out of alignment or could I just be a exhaust stroke?

Need some help fellas.. Pulling my hair out and resorting to to many beers and smoke.

Hey Jeb whats going on there. maybe you should check that the rotor is sitting in its grove on the cam. if its o.k. then pull the plugs on both jugs then turn motor over with the starter, now keep a finger in the front jug to make sure you are at the compression stroke, then roll motor back past tdc then back agian to the igntion mark T..... and static time. if for some reason the red light dont come on or it blinks at you then move it all the way counter clock wise untill the light comes on then turn clock wise untill it go's out thats it.if you have any trouble you can ring me and i will walk ya though it .

We have spark.. Static timed and she fired right up... Sounds good and starts much easier in comparison to before I had all the ignition troubles.

Bring on the sunshine, I want to ride..

Question ultima ignition

with the 53-660 did you set DTC at the 3.0? and did that help you wth the light going out /blinking etc?

I just followed the instructions that came with the ignition. So only static timed the bike.
