New Ultima Kicker Transmission . . .
I just noticed Ultima is offering a new kick start six speed transmission. There is also a new conversion kit to add a kicker to existing Ultima six speed transmissions. Jireh is selling the conversion kit for $244.95 and it's Jireh part #96-969.
Both are here:

Offhand I don't see why a 5 sd kicker wouldn't work on a 6 sp and I don't know why ppl are so afraid of using a kicker. We all know by now how poor a HD starter is and how hard it is to find battery room on a chop and how expensive batteries are today. Its a no brainer for me.

Just how hard is it to install a kicker on a Harley transmission? I have a 98 gear cluster in a Jim's case and with my octagon oil bag the battery is really too small to be effective.
I'd been thinking about a kicker so that might be an option for me!

Interesting.
I know fuck all about kick starts, but you don;t have to run a battery with them, even if you have headlights?
How hard is it to get used to if you've never used a kick start before? I've heard stories of guys being thrown upside down when the motor starts.

it all depends how well ya motor is set up.....I use a Morris Magneto as well so if I wanted to it would run without any electrics at all on the bike....but if you are using electronic or points & Coil ignition you will need power feed from either a Battery or a Battery eliminator which is realy just a Capasitor for a small amount of power to fire ya up then it will run off ya charging system.

When they had kickstarters, they were for much smaller displacement, low compression engines. It's not even a practical issue because, like someone already stated, modern bikes need a battery to run. I really don't feel the need to be kicking my 127, even with compression releases. I'm sure it's more of a retro/style thing. The only street bike I own that has a kickstarter is my 1974 Kawasaki H2 2 stroke triple and I can start that with my hand.
Maybe you guys can change it from "real men use kickstarters" to "real men use their arms on kickstarters".

even a little ricer can kick these things over I only weigh 170 and kicking over a 100 incher with 10:1 pistons is a piece of cake. Feels exactly like kicking over an old sporty. It's actually harder kicking over an old 74 than an altered big bore motor because the damn compression is so low you can't find #1 cylinder. I think some of you younger guys would be pleasantly surprised as to how simple and trouble free a kicker is. No battery, no jackshaft, no big wires to fight with, no battery tenders, a bigger oil capacity, no complications like with a starter.
