No motor lasts forever Sal. From the very 1st start it is degrading and wearing out. Nature of the beast.

I knew guy's at work several years ago that would get in line at the dealership ( when the dealers recieved there allotment for the month / quater or what ever ))to order a new bike and have it sold before it was delivered . Anywhere from $500 to 1 K profit without doing a thing . The good ol days .

I am with you man - I love all bikes. As for my Harley -2002 Heritage - it is just change the oil
and adjust things. Getting Beemers fixed is a PIA the parts have to come form Stuttgart and local dealers can't afford to stock them.
I haven't had any trouble with my Harley either. It's a good running bike. So is my custom bike, and now that I've replaced my way too low custom oil tank with a Moon aluminum tank mounted up higher, I can actually ride it. Right now my focus is on my CBX. I'm about 2/3rds done with it.

My point is/was, any engine will last a long time if it's properly maintained. I know plenty of people that have put 100K on HD engines. I personally put 65K on one. Thats quite a few years as the riding seasons go around here.

know a lot also.. and they dug deep into there wallets to get that milage....theres no comparison between the two motors on how long they last before a rebuild..or the cost to run a metric 100,000 miles to a harley

Only thing i did was rebuild my top end, couple hundred bucks in parts is all as I did the work. No biggy. I'm not doubting that the metrics will hold up better for less, just not what I care to ride. Somethin bout an american V-twin that metrics will never deliver. It's the whole package.

Wait until you get a chance to wring it out on the twisties. You're going to really like it. You just think about turning and you're there. You can really throw that bike around plus it's fast and pretty comfortable.

that 919 cc motor surprised me so far..havent red lined it yet.... at 7000 rpm the wheel lifts off the ground pretty fast/compared to a longer wheel base.....first thing i noticed was bike goes where where look in curve

As far as the subculture you can't dispute the effect of landmark bikes like the CB750, Kawasaki H2, Honda CB450, Honda Interceptor, Suzuki Hayabusa, a half dozen factory turbo models, Kawasaki GPZ's, Honda CBX, Goldwings, and on and on. Not to mention multiple cylinders, water cooling, two strokes, shaft drives, etc. For that matter, you can thank the Japs for the whole Sportbike market and subculture.

If the subculture you're talking about is guys wearing vests and bandanas on underpowered air cooled bikes with outdated technology, well, you can have that one.
What are you doing here???
If that is your slant?
And as far as them starting anything....the best they have ever done is to copy, copy, copy, copy, copy!
Design it to Extend the service life...but supply no repair parts when it does break down !

We had it right...design it to be rebuilt and make $$ on both ends....selling parts and new equipment.

But NOOOO I don't care about parts availability...if it breaks...I'll just buy another..cause it was so cheap!

Oh ya and who cares about someother Americans job...just as long as i GOT MINE!

Ohh and on all those landmark bikes that you offer....
Haybusa-single purpose speed bike...Big deal!

Kaw H-2- blew up so quick..your lucky to find any that are still together...real quaility there!

CB750--well no one else had one ,so they ruled the roost..for a littlewhile

CBX-good luck tuning 6 carbs, needed a wide load sign out back, clumbersome, hard to tune. Nothing to brag about there!

I have a neighbor who has a newer Gold wing and hates it...NO Storage...he looks at my ultra with all it's storage space and starts mumbling!

And as far as stupid race styled street bikes...Who cares?

Oh! and you missed that earth shaking Wankel-rotery that Suzuki had out.
It certainly was a high point for the far east!

This is CLUB CHOPPER!

not rice-rocket butt-kissing forum...where we can all come and worship those that are more worried about .....I don't know what they worry about!
But they might better start cause their job may be next!

Let the crap begin!
