[quote=Milenko;884680]White and Blue collars are not the issue here... There are plenty of guys riding a sporty and skipping meals to pay for it that would look down their nose at you just the same...pricks come in all shapes and sizes, and in every income bracket...QUOTE]
I am the guy described above. I have a 2008 sporty because, at the time of buying my bike...I THOUGHT it was all I could afford, with a look I liked. Man, if I knew then, what I knew now. I would have bought an older (non-efi) bike, that I could have worked with to build into my personal scoot. Hell, I would have bought a Buell, and did the chopper conversion to it. My last bike (about 5yrs ago was a shovelhead FLH) Anyway, after a few weeks back in the game.... it didnt take me too long to see a LOT of those guys that was described in the opening post. I think it was the first (and last) local HD 'bike nite' that was a REAL eye opener for me. I guess I was disappointed, because I always thought that riding was about two wheels on the pavement, rolling a little closer to the open road and taking in the world around you. Riding my scoot is about as close to 'total enlightenment' as it comes for me. Its a feeling and a state of mind. This can be achieved on any type bike, any brand. (Granted I wish I could be achieving total enlightenment on a new WCC CFL2 but hey, I'll work with what Ive got-LOL) My immediete observation with many of those types of guys is that they completely miss the point. They think wearing a HD logo all over their bodies, and all over their bikes is a sort of 'badge of honor' ...thus, they MUST be a real biker, and better than you if you are on anything but HD. (They miss the fact they are actually paying to advertise for the MoCo) They think the 'newer, the shiner, the bigger, the better' . They think spending 30,000/40,000 on a new Bagger w/Screamin Eagle parts thrown all over it, validates them as a biker and therefor, anyone who drives another brand, or even a less expensive HD should be looked down upon. I'll tell you one of the coolest bikes Ive seen was a bike a guy made out old an old yamaha motor and triumph frame. There wasnt a shiney part on the whole damned bike... Guy needed the money, and was trying to sell it for two grand. I tried everything I could to scrounge up the money for that bike. I guess my point is that for a LOT (notice I am not saying 'all' - there's a lot of good HD riders out there), but there are MANY HD guys out there that I consider bike 'owners'...the buy all the shiney crap, run led lights throughout their motor and get together and brag about how much they spent on there 'status symbol'. For them it s a'rolling trophy' and wouldnt know the first thing about changing their own handlebars, or riding in the rain. I dont belong to any F'n owners groups, Im not about being 'part of the crowd'. (Hell, I do not have ONE visible HD logo anywhere on my bike) You can like my ride or not...but I do. If you are broke down on the side of the rode, I will stop and help you. (unless you are on a crotch rocket and you just passed me at 120mph doing a wheelie on the interstate - your on your own) To me it goes back to the old Spike Lee/Michael Jordan commercials - 'It must be the shoes' It wasnt the shoes, it was Michael jordan, and he would still kick your ass on the basketball court with a pair of sneakers from payless. No, its not the bike, the makes the biker... its about what you do with the bike, how you ride it, and how you treat your other two wheeled brothers (and sisters) on the road. Theres not much a better feeling for me when Im riding with a bunch of fellow riders on the open road (no matter what the bike) and I know all they all 'get it'. Its not about the 'show or bling'... its ALL about the ride itself. The type of person described in the opening post can stay home, and wash his BMW and put new cupholders on his Roadking. Leave the road open to those that get what biking is all about.

Suckerpunch, having HD logos or an efi system or rubber mounts or whatever technology (new or old), does not restrict you from chopping it. I personally would have liked an efi setup on my old generator pan twenty-five years ago when I was riding cross country through mountains and deserts.

It's been said before, but chop whatever you have. Or keep it stock. Ride as much or as little as you want and however you want. Whether it's about what books you read or food you like or bikes, it's all about grabbing all the freedom you can in this life.

This guy on a brand new stock looking Harley rode by. About 5 minutes later he pulled in the lot, parked next to our bikes and began to examine the bikes. I think he noticed mine was a Honda about 45 seconds into the examination and just looked at us and didn't say a word. He goes over sits at the table next to us drinks a small coke - NEVER SAYING A WORD TO ANY OF US - finishes his drink, gets back on his bike and drives off. Of course he had to give er HELL as he rocketed out of the lot!

He was probably an OK guy, but I bet he was expecting to talk to some Harley guys! I actually don't mind it when guys ask me about my bike - I did do 90% of the work to it so I'm proud of the fact that I can work on my own bike (FOREIGN or DOMESTIC) and make people look my way. Anyway, I get a lot of guys that look at my bike and then take a double take! I like all makes of bikes (YEA - EVEN THOSE WEIRD GUZZI'S).

Anyway - There's always gonna be those hard core HARLEY guys that dislike JAP bikes, but I think us guy's that like all makes of bikes are growing!
FOR ME IF YOU CUSTOMIZE IT - I LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!
Did you say anything to him? He was obviously looking to belong and maybe he felt intimidated. He's saying the same thing on a HD forum:
"I pulled up next to these three bikers at a Sonic and they didn't even say a word to me. They thought since I was riding a stock HD and they had custom/chopped bikes that they were too cool to even acknowledge my existence. I even walked around their bikes admiring how great they looked and they still didn't say anything to me. So I sat down and ate lunch after having rode 300 miles and not once did they acknowledge my presence. I guess because of my bike, I wasn't "cool" enough to talk to."
It sort of goes both ways, depending how you look at.

“We simply assume that the way we see things is the way they really are or the way they should be. And our attitudes and behaviors grow out of these assumptions.”
