You cannot receive welfare AND Social Security at the same time.
And if you get Social Security remember, you paid into it your entire working life.
If you get county aid, then the food stamps are reduced to $1.60 per day in Caliifornia.
That means one can of tamalies or soup and a piece of fruit per day. I know because I lost my job and I found out. Think about that - $1.60 per DAY to eat on. For single men.
Also if your wife is a school teacher she will not get your social security when you die because by the time they add in the conversion factor from the Cal STIRS union retirement, it amounts to zero basically. In California.
But because of the recent economic downturn in the stock market, teachers lost about a 1/3 of their benefits anyway.
