2005 Big Bear Venom

looking at a bike, found a BB for around 5k.
So far specs are
124 Super Stock Sidewinder
6 Speed Jims
Performance Machines everything
Internal throttle.

Have questions, What should I specifically look for.

It will need a chain and battery, everything looks clean.

Will provide pics when i get some saturday.

Just to start...there is NO support from BB at all.

Lots of good parts there. I'd buy it for 5k knowing the possible issues. A little work and you've got a good bike. I really miss mine.

The internal throttles they used weren't all that great. Check that out for sure.

Of course the weld issue is huge..if it were me I'd take it apart and have the welds checked.

Everything else is great. Mine was an 06 DA with Venom tins, it barely escaped the recall.

Is it a factory build, shop build or garage build?

Email me if you want to talk.

Brother, do you know who built it?

They were sold assembled, new from the factory, sold as kits to indy shops and sold as kits to shleps like me for garage builds. Lucky for me I have a buddy with major talent. We worked really well together

If your POSITIVE the frame has been "FIXED" then your probably good to go. You can't beat that engine and Trans. I'm guessing it has a BDL open belt drive?

Definitely need more pics. I lost the picture you sent yesterday (stupid tablet)

If I recall, the picture shows a soft tail, the merc was a hard tail. The merc didn't have a wrap around oil tank, its the same as the one on my BBC. It's similar to the one in the picture but I don't think that oil tank is from BBC.

Oh yeah, get the Vin too...

The oil tank could very well be a Merc tank.

The grips look like the BBC upgraded models

The tail light and head light look right.

It's been awhile since I've discussed BBCs. I think the Merc came in both a hard tail and Soft tail, so thats a merc right there. The Vin should start with BBC....if my old brain is working right.

The swing arm, fender, axle covers, seat, all look right to me.

I never ran across many of these. They were the long chopper compared to the pro streets that were so popular back then. I don't know if the merc was on the recall list.

A little paint and polish and you've got a nice bike there.

Yeah, were planning on cleaning it all up, Im glad its a chopper, we have the rigid (Bobber) and a 'Red Horse" pro street(?) need to verify. my uncles collecting bikes basically lol.

I know the guy says his brother has all the paperwork for everything which we are getting also. Its nice and low, might look into airbag and get it to lay down fully. not sure.

should hopefully have it running sunday or possibly try riding it home (less than 8 miles from home)

5g's is a good price.

Brother, if the motor and tranny are good, PM controls and brakes. I'd be all over it for 5k (assuming the recall isn't an issue)

My lord that paint is ugly

Has it been sitting or on the road?

It's a Merc for sure....I can't comment on the gusset. I'm guessing your asking about the gusset because of the recall or just confirming it's a merc. I don't know what gussets BBC used when they fixed a recalled bike.

I just did a quick search and the merc wasn't listed anywhere on the recall lists that I read.

That sounds like a good choice right there. I never did like those merc tanks...
