Repurposing old build... need advice...
Hey guys, quick background, I was a member years ago (old email long gone, needed to reregister), built a few prostreets used to ride 15k miles or so a year, but then broke my spine in a few spots and didnt ride for a decade, now I am back on a bike...
I have a chopper that I want to take apart (never finished the titling process) and repurpose as bagger (wife needs a backrest so she stays off my back while I am riding, plus the storage is nice, I grabbed a great deal on a 14' victory xc, so we have been riding that)...
heres what I have... krafttech 250mm rear 21 front, 38 degree stretched 2", with a SS 111 evo carb'd motor, rev tech 6 speed belt, closed primary...
Heres what I want, fixed fairing, 23" front wheel bagger, stretched bags, big tank, fairing, comfortable seat, slim tour pack....
heres my plan- Buy a cheap high mile road king or glide, strip it to the frame, use the driveline out of my chopper, buy new bags, fenders, front end, wheels, tank, controls, etc...
So let me know what you think, an I on the right track or way off? I have a line on a 98 road king with 100k on it for 2700 as a donor.... what would be the best bike to start with? thanks guys for the help, I will start a build thread with pics of everything as I go...

This is a great start, I used a Roadking for a while and absolutely LOVED it. Had been thinking of getting another one.
I would go this route and trade off what you have that you dont need for parts you can use.

so 99 and down road king or glide would be a good start, and I can use my chopper drivetrain? minus the tranny maybe? I think I heard the tranny is different for the touring bikes? also will my evo carb motor bolt up to the touring 99 and down bikes? thanks

I want to say those are Evo's as well. I had a 98 I would borrow. The drive train I think is the same as a softy/FXR (weird)
Your Trans for a rigid I think is usually from a softy, so maybe it would fit. (Someone should chime in on this)
I like roadkinds over glides but thats because I hate the Massive fairing and solid lights, (if im turning I want the line to aim the same direction)
so really personal preference.

It's a great fricken plan...
Then you can take your time rebuilding everthing for the Krafttec frame or do a nice bobber, frames are cheap..
Those 250mm rear tire pro street's are still in style and who gives a fuck anyways.
You'll have just about everything else you'll need .....
I love Evo engines . IMO, they are the best engine made by HD. That's why S&S made/makes so many of them.
That old evo engine is perfect for a light bobber..

So I finally pulled the trigger on a donor, ended spending a bit more on the donor but the bike is really nice, 1998 electra glide, 1 owner, all receipts for every oil change it ever had, and the best part is it 2200 miles ago he had a baker dd6 installed, a new clutch, new primary, new belt, new rear pads, and had the rear swingarm pivot redone... I bought it for about half of what he spent on that service a couple winters ago!!!
now the fun starts, lol... going to be 111" ss with baker 6 speed, 23" front wheel, raked and aped...
