Ultima 127, how can u test oil pump check valve?

Ultima 127, how can u test oil pump check valve?? i am positive my oil is acccumulating in crackcase.. just did oil change after sitting for months. beore i pulled filter, i pulled oil tank drain got 1.5 quart . Then crankcase drain plug gave me another 1.5 quart. then oil filter got me quarter quart.

installed new pre filled filter, and 3.2 quarts new oil, and spun up motor to circulate oil. had trouble starting and i noticed fresh oil spitting out crankcase vent, a 6 inch puddle, and hasnt even started up yet (battery died)

it looks like i have 2 bad check valve symptoms,
1. too much oil drained from case (but could have been from oil filter).
2. oil already high enough in case to be spit out soon after oil was poured into oil tank.
3. crank vent has always made small puddles under it.

any way to test or reseat oil check valve?????

One way is to tap the ball with a hammer and stick to try and re seat it..I tried it on my shovel and didn't get the results I wanted but , this can be done on the bike....The other method is to remove the pump and use a push rod and valve grinding compound.....I am sure they have a tool
for it, or maybe not..Harley dealer would just slap a new one on....Any case the seat has to be reworked....and new ball maybe..I wonder if you could get some 400 grit wet or dry sandpaper down in there some how and clean that seat up?

thx 4 replies, motor has less than 500 miles, but is 11 yrs old. i was hoping it just needs a new spring.
if i pull the plug, will oil gush out? should i pinch the rubber feed line? i will look for a spring spec.

I think oil will come out if I remember correctly, since it is on top of the ball.....With that low mileage, the seat is probably just dirty, you should just be able to clean it up..I think I do remember rolling up a sheet of 400 grit into a tube and working it around the seat to polish it a little..It's been 15 years....If the spring doesn't do the trick..
