The plunger shouldn't need a lot of force to make contact...I wouldnt remove the spring the starter will hang engaged.......I would just file the contacts as best as I could....but they cant be burnt...Mine had a couple of bulge spots on them and I ground it down with a dremel tool..since the dremel reaches straight in...you may be able to do it with a drill bit...I haven't had any trouble since....I couldn't use a solenoid push button because I have the issue with having to hold my compression releases down to crank the beast ....LOL..
